hello boys and girls, im sorry to say that i can not be at this years honda festival so i will have a meeting with a few of the boys and put together a format for saturday...... some of the old favs will be back ie.le mans style start, the old boys sprints(if there is enough of them)a selection of tracks etc....... on another note.... whats going on with the numbers of teams that are not there...is there a raft of people with older kit that just think the newer kit is just so much better if so post up,if this is the case rather than having pros and clubman we could make it a div 1 and div 2 as grant miller has called it from the start.what i mean is anyone running at least 3 year old gear with ut1 engines or newer would div 1 and the rest kit older than 3 years and engines that are e,k,or t would be div 2... i am looking for responce here so please do if i do not know then i can do nothing to help PLEASE LET KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS.. thanks and see you all soon, fraser....

| I no longer have a prokart but will be around that weekend so if anyone is looking for a second driver I would be happy to offer my services. |

Hi all, Yup! Fraser has the dates correct. Fraser, if matt want's to run your kart and for any reason getting it to the track is a problem, give me a shout and i'll nip over for it as i plan to be in crail on the friday anyway. Come on Matt!!! Get your ass back on track mate. Even if it is just for a one off weekend.

I have PM'd Fraser about his kind offer. I would need a second driver though. I have asked Fraser if there is any chance we could share the drive in his kart, however he may be working that weekend. It would be fine to get back in a prokart for the weekend. Well see what can be sorted out.

well thats Rab and Matt sorted.
back to Frasers question on grid size. We've had 20 different teams take part this year, but some have only made it for 1 or 2 weekends. There have been 4-5 new teams to the grid this year which is always good to see - but what has happened to the grids of 25+ (e.g. summer 08).
A couple of format changes have happened since then - we now race on the 3rd weekend, it was the 4th - is this hurting grid sizes?
Are you all working more and cannot get the time? we know Fraser is but his kart is still available to race - is anyone interested in renting karts if there were some available?? the club has 3 i think.
Is the financial pinch stopping you getting on track i.e. race costs, fuel costs, tire costs, travel costs etc??
The split league format (Prokart/Clubman) was introduced to give those that didnt compete in the top 10 a chance to win their own league and get some trophies...however we're now down to only 2-4 Clubmans - whereas the Prokarts have kept steady at 6-8karts. Is this format working for Clubmans/grid numbers?
let us know and Fraser can get back to the committee and see how we can help but as Fraser says we've got to get feedback on why teams are not making it to the race weekend.
For all those out there that have prokarts in their shed/garage - do you want to race? some will just want them for fun karts, but there must be more that want to race out there. If you do and its transport/vans or teammate availability or equipment specs / being competitive etc please get back to us and we'll help where we can.
Race weekend costs are very low - for non members its only £15 for day membership, Saturday is test day 10am - 8pm with no costs other that your day membership - excellent value. Sunday race day is £60 for team entry - for that you get practice, qulifying and 3x1hr races, plus if you want to practice after racing the track is still available upto 8pm - that is exceptional value and you'll do hard to beat it at any hire kart track.
Race day has also been changed slightly. We've started running different track layouts - instead of the long/short format, we now have 7-8 track layouts to choose from and these have been very popular and certainly give a variety to compete on - just in case the track is the issue.
lastly - the club offer a half year membership from Sept for £50 just in case you're wanting to race and are not a member - £50 for unlimited access during the week (10am - 8pm) and on free weekends - exceptional value even you're wanting to race the last half of the year - memberships are only £100 for the year and based on the amount of track time we get this is the best value for money form of karting available.
Come on - give your feedback and help build the Prokart grids!! |

Alright lads. two issues for me are-
race weekends on the third weekend which clashes with larkhall the difference between the front runners and the rest.
prokarts can be found for good money but when matched against some of the kit on use, all over the country, in this class even if your the best driver out you'll not be competitive. That's not a criticism we all upgrade as we learn, get faster. So i reckon the biggest challenge is to attract more of the clubman level racer.
Having said all that i think what's on offer at crail is the best value for money kart racing there is north of the border:)

just realised i didn't offer any suggestions so here's my two bob-
consider an open 4 stroke(aircooled) class format reduce the number of club championship rounds and make some months one off events like a 6 hour enduro etc. grids in scotland are struggling for numbers so i reckon we need to think out of the traditional format to get some decent racing.
i'm done:) kev |

Kev, Cheers - i'll be keeping track of the replies to see if others are finding the 3rd weekend is an issue.
Open racing would work but the format etc would have to be reviewed i.e. when WF came through we let you run Bridgestones, whereas everyone would have to run same tyres and min weight...etc..
Good suggestions all the same cheers.
More please - come on!
last race the weather was supposed to be raining - the golf was on and traffic was going to be a pain. in fact the weather was Dry, sunny 26degC and people needed to pour water over them before races it was that hot, the golf traffic wasnt bad and the police had st.andrews sorted out. we got home through st.andrews as the crowds were leaving and there was no issues, just slight traffic calming.
Would a webcam on race weekend help? - it would show the track and weather on the day.
out of curiousity are there any GX200 owners out there that want to take part? or even the non-Honda brands. if there are sufficient could we run a class of their own?
Keep the ideas coming.

Anyone who is thinking of racing at Crail should PAY NO ATTENTION TO ANY OF THE WEATHER FORECASTS - met office, BBC etc, they are all wildly inaccurate. More often than not the weather is the exact opposite of the forecast. I know as I live 5 minutes from the track. When the MOD built the airbase there during/after WWII they chose that bit of Crail as it's the most easterly point of mainland Britain and for some reason has almost the lowest rainfall in the UK. So no-one should be put off by forecasts of heavy rain as usually the sun is shining at Crail - HONESTLY - NO BULL! |
